Which session of Clinic should I register for?

Kindergarteners should take First Year Clinic.  First graders and those who have had a year of clinic should take Second Year Clinic.  First graders who have never played before may choose either session.  It is up to the parent to decide if the child would feel comfortable in Second Year Clinic with children who have already had one year of clinic.

My child is really good at soccer.  Can he/she play up?

All NYSC Recreational soccer players are required to play on a team at their age appropriate level.  It is in the best interest of the players and the team for children to play at their age level, no matter what their skill level.  More info

I really want my child to play up.  Why can't he/she?

NYSC has found that most age appropriate kids really don't want younger kids on their team.  Also, most kids who start to play up at younger levels, decide not to once puberty starts to kick in, and they become the small kid on the team.  Then the team they have played on for years loses these players and has to disband, leaving the age appropriate players without a team.  Recreational soccer is a team sport, meant to include players of all skill levels.  If your child is highly skillled in soccer, at 10 years old he/she can play up by trying out for U12 Club Select.

My child is not very athletic.  Can he/she play down?

WSYSA prohibits playing down.  If a player has physical or mental disabilities they may petition for a waiver to play down.  More info

I want to coach.  Can I have some more information?

Please read the information on the website for
Mod Rec Coaches, Recreational Coaches, and Club Select Coaches.  We always need volunteer coaches.  Soccer experience not required.

How much does playing soccer cost?

The registration fees for the 2008 season are:
U-7 Clinic - $100 (includes ball and reversible jersey)
U-8 to U-18 Mod/Recreational Soccer - $150 ($10 discount if registered by April 30th)
U-12 to U-19 Club Select Soccer - $375 (requires tryout and invitation)
Clinc and Rec players need to provide their own soccer cleats and shin guards.  Rec and Select must also purchase uniforms.  Select players have additional fees for tournaments and training, which will vary by team.

Where does the money for the registration fee go?

Most of the registration fee goes toward renting the fields for practices and games.  The Bellevue Parks department charges NYSC for all of the fields that we use, including schools and parks.  The registration fee also covers referees, WSYSA fees, player insurance, and a small amount of administrative expenses.

Why do I have to send in proof of my child’s age?

The Washington State Youth Soccer Association (WSYSA) requires age verification for all players.  Registration is NOT complete without proof of age.  Your child will NOT be placed on a team until his/her age is verified.  More info

I changed my mind and want to pay by credit card instead of check.  Can I do that?

Go to "Member Log In" in the upper left corner of the home page.  From there you can pay and also update information.

How are teams formed?

Returning players registered by May 31st are given priority for returning to their same team.  All remaining players will be placed to keep teams at each age group of equal size, considering the school, neighborhood or requests of the participant.  Late registrants will be rostered to whatever team needs additional players.  More info

How many players are on a team?

Maximum roster size for Mod Rec teams of U8 is 8, U9 is 9, U10 is 10 and U11 is 14.  Recreational teams of U12-U19 can have between 12 and 18 players.

Does the clinic program have teams?

Team are not formed in the clinic program.  Friends who signs up for the same session will be together, since we do not break the session down into separate teams.  The players play many small sided games with other players in the program session.

When will I hear about my child's team, coach, practices?

We start forming teams in early June.  Ideally, we could have teams rostered by late June.  The reality is that we will need to find coaches and more players to fill out a lot of the teams.  This could drag the process out as late as the end of August for some teams.  Most likely you will hear from your child's coach before the beginning of August.

Why haven’t I heard from my child’s coach?

Coaches typically receive their team rosters by the beginning of August.  If you haven’t heard from your coach, he/she could be on vacation or not ready to start practices yet.  If you haven’t heard from your coach by mid-August, please contact the club at administrator@newportsoccer.org.

Where do I get a uniform?

Rec U8 and up players will need a jersey, red soccer shorts and red soccer socks.  The jersey must purchased at Soccer West in Loehmann's Plaza in Factoria.  Clinic players will receive a different kind of jersey at the first session.  More info

When is the season?

The season begins just after Labor Day, usually the second week of September, and runs on consecutive weekends until early November for Recreational and mid-December for Club Select.

When do practices begin?

Practices for Recreational soccer can start anytime after August 1, but this depends on the coach.  Most teams do not begin to practice until mid to late August.  Club Select practices can begin anytime from spring through summer.

When are practices?

Practices are held twice a week.  There are different time slots for each practice day, usually starting somewhere between 4:00 to 6:00.  Coaches will be assigned practice days and times after all of the teams have been formed.  It is not possible to assign your child to a team that has your choice of practice days or times.

Where are the fields?

The fields are located throughout South Bellevue.  Most of the fields are dirt and are located at the schools within our boundaries.  We also use the grass field at Newport Hills Park.

When are the games?

All U13 and below games are played on Saturday.  For boys soccer U14 and up the games are on Sunday.  Girls play on Saturday until U15, then switch to Sundays.  The games schedule is set by EYSA and cannot be changed by NYSC.

Where are the games played?

All Rec home games are played in South Bellevue.  Away games for U13 and below may be in Issaquah, Mercer Island or other parts of Bellevue.  Away games for the older teams may be a little further away, as there are fewer teams at these age groups.

How long are the games?

U08 - (2) 22-minute halves - 4 players, with Modified Rules
U09 - (2) 25-minute halves - 5 players, with Modified Rules
U10 - (2) 28-minute halves - 6 players, with Modified Rules
U11 - (2) 30-minute halves - 9 players, with Modified Rules
U12 - (2) 30-minute halves - 11 players
U13 - (2) 35-minute halves - 11 players
U14 - (2) 35-minute halves - 11 players
U15 - (2) 40-minute halves - 11 players
U16 - (2) 40-minute halves - 11 players
U17 - (2) 45-minute halves - 11 players

What does my child need to bring to practice?

1.  Soccer shoes with cleats (no baseball cleats allowed)
2.  Soccer shin guards (required! A player without shin guards will not be allowed to participate)
3.  A water bottle
4.  A soccer ball

What size soccer ball is used?

U-6 – U-8 use a size 3 ball, U-9 - U12 a size 4, and U13 and up a size 5.

Does it matter much if we miss a couple practices?

Yes it does matter.  The coach will be teaching fundamental skills to the players.  Players who miss practice miss learning these skills.  They will also miss out on conditioning and game strategy.

What do I do if the practice schedule doesn't work very well for me?

Practice schedule times are set to fit a large number of teams on very few fields.  It is simply impossible to accommodate everyone’s preferred schedule.  We suggest you talk with other parents and see if something can be worked out for carpooling, etc.

What do I do if I have a problem with the coach?

Talk to the coach first.  Most problems can be resolved immediately simply by taking up your concern with the coach.  If you feel that this hasn't provided a solution email your concerns to administrator@newportsoccer.org.

What do I do if I need to cancel my registration?

You will need to notify the club.  Refunds will only be granted in the event of a change in the status of the player.  More info

Why aren't I getting emails from NYSC?

Your email may be outdated - go to "Member Login" and update your email.  You may have spam blockers that prevent our email from getting through - make sure our email address is in your accepted email list.

How can I get the Medical Consent form if I never got it or I deleted my confirmation email?

You can download a blank Medical Consent and Release of Liability form here.  Your coach can also print a completed one from the Team Page.

How many players does NYSC have?

Newport Youth Soccer club had 997 players in the 2009 season.  The numbers break down into:  Clinic  U6/U7 – 154 players; Rec and Mod Rec – 615 players and; Club Select – 228 players.

Do you have a Spring Soccer program?

NYSC does not have Spring Soccer.  Starfire and Arena Sports offer winter and spring indoor soccer.  Boys and Girls Club and parks departments may offer spring outdoor programs.
